What is beauty? Is it in the eye of the beholder...or is it more than skin deep?

Gosh - unpack that one...

What comes to mind first when you see the word 'beauty'?

  • perfect face
  • perfect body
  • skinny
  • curvaceous
  • muscly
  • beautiful clothing
  • etc, etc, etc....

So what does it mean to you?

I remember many years ago, I was in Morocco with my dearest girlfriend who had arranged to meet a business colleague. This colleague was a lady who owned an incredible Riad in the heart of Marrakesh. Devine part of the world.

We waited in the shadows of the internal terrace, with a glass of piping hot mint tea...(yes, in the middle of the hottest place on earth, a hot mint tea was served to aid in 'cooling' us down! That is another story for another day...).

So my friend and I were waiting for this lady to arrive when we spotted her across the Medina courtyard...and we both stopped...

This ladies beauty took both our breath away...although not in the 'traditional' sense...

She was no Elle McPherson or current Instagram influencer...and in fact, if my memory serves me, she was not even wearing any make up, shoes or jewelry!

Her beauty was an incredible sense of quiet confidence...an aura of being at one with herself and a charisma that implied that she was absolutely comfortable in her skin, her body and herself...

She oozed it! My friend and I still speak about this lady today...the manner in which she held herself and spoke and interacted...it was all so 'beautiful'...

Beauty for me is the quiet confidence of a secure person, who is not judgmental, does not display an ego or sense that they are better than anyone and an individual who is happy with themselves...that to me is true beauty.

What is your version of beauty and does the pursuit of perfection stop you from seeing the beauty within yourself?
