I just had a client that came into the therapy session with the words...
'I just can't....I can't change anything!'
Have you ever said that to yourself? It could be around many life challenges such as getting out of a bad relationship, changing jobs, bad habits such as alcohol or substance abuse.... Are you saying you can't or won't and if you 'won't'...is that because you don't believe in yourself?
Where did we get the notion we can't or won't...did it just automatically pop up in our minds (there goes that automatic thought again....) or have you said it to yourself so often that this has become the 'truth' narrative' around who you are, what you can do and indeed, what you may be able to do...
What would happen if these negative words are no longer there....could you, would you, can you, will you change or make changes.....?
In therapy, we can unpack the 'can't' and look at the how...how you can and how you are able to, make changes in whatever you are going through...
And it all starts by believing in yourself....
We have all been gifted a complete tool kit of skills such as thoughts, behaviors, feelings etc...it is how we choose to use them, when and how they serve us and off course, when they do not...
Believing in yourself enables you to say 'I can do this' and with the shift of thought from 'can't' to 'can' we start navigating a forward pathway away from what is no longer good for us to what is better for us.
